Something a little different. Most boards are rectangles, so this one squares up, a bold, even format that sits beautifully in the middle of a table or on the counter. The Square One brings together maple, African oak, padauk and oak in clean stripes that run from pale honey through warm brown to a glowing padauk red. Every strip is hand-selected for colour and grain, then cut, arranged and glued so the stripes line up cleanly across the full width of the board. It is planed and sanded smooth through progressively finer grits, with softly eased edges that feel good in the hand. This is a solid, one-of-a-kind piece made in my small workshop in the Netherlands, so the board in the photos is the exact board you'll receive. At 29.2 centimeters square it is just right for chopping and prep, or for serving cheese, charcuterie and nibbles at the table, with a shape that stands out from the usual.
